Homomorphic encryption project news

1st December 2011

Red Skies Limited today joined an international consortium of research companies and software companies tasked with developing the next generation of homomorphic encryption technologies to enable data to be securely stored and processed in cloud environments.

A major challenge stopping the wider adoption of cloud computing is how to secure data which could be mirrored geographically on servers around the world. If data is encrypted before being uploaded into a cloud environment then it can't be processed without downloading the complete set of encrypted data.

Building on 30 years of research by IBM and using €3 million of European Commission funding, this project uses new theoretical approaches to encrypt data in a way that can be processed using encrypted actions with encrypted results returned for decryption outside of the cloud, finally opening up cloud environments for secure processing and data storage.
